Short Bio
George N. Zaimes is the Deputy Director of the UNESCO Con-E-Ect Chair for the Conservation and Ecotourism of Riparian and Deltaic Ecosystems (http://unescochair.teiemt.gr/ . He is also an Assistant Professor specializing in the management of riverine and riparian ecosystems and the Director of GERi Lab (Geomorphology, Edaphology and Riparian areas) (http://www.for.ihu.gr/index.php/en/2018-09-17-13-23-57) of the Department of Forest and Natural Environment Sciences of the School of Geotechnical Sciences of the International Hellenic University in Greece. George Zaimes also serves as the Deputy Director of the Master’s program Man and Water. He received his doctorate in Water Resources from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA. His main research interests are the sustainable management of water resources, the management, conservation and restoration of riparian areas, the management and rehabilitation of rivers, streams and torrents, nature-based solutions for soil erosion reduction, mitigating water pollution, hydrogeomorphology and hydrology. A focal point of his research is the sustainable management of riparian areas and other natural ecosystems with ecosystem-based approaches such as ecotourism under the potential impact of climate change. He has extensive experience in managing international and national research projects for more than 10 years and has been involved in more than 30 projects. This is the second Black Sea project he is the Project Coordinator. The first Black Sea Project was titled “Utilizing Stream Waters in the Suppression of Forest Fires with the Help of New Technologies (BSB2666)” with the acronym “Streams-2-SUPPRESS-Fires.” Finally, he has authored many publications that include book chapters and manuscripts in scientific journals and proceedings of international scientific conferences (more than 150 in total).

Short Bio
My name is Maria Marinescu and I was born on February 15, 1966 in Buzau, Romania. In 1980 I was admitted to the "Costin D. Nenitescu" High School from Buzau City, which I graduated in 1984. In 1985 I entered the Faculty of Applied Chemistry and Materials Science at the "Politehnica" University of Bucharest, specializing in Inorganic Chemical Technology, graduated in 1990 with a degree in chemical engineering.
After graduation, in the period 1990-1991 I worked at the Liberty Galați (Galati Steel Plant) in Galati as a chemical engineer in the central laboratory of physico-chemical analysis of ore used in the production process of the plant.
During 1991-1992 I worked for the VAE-APCAROM Company in Buzau within the Technical Office that dealt with the preparation of technical documentation of road appliances, fire extinguishers, etc.
Since 1992 I started working at the Buzau-Ialomita River Basin Water Administration as a chemical engineer within the Office of Management, Monitoring and Protection of Water Resources. In 2001 I became the head of the River Basin Management Plan Office that I still hold, which deals with the implementation of European directives in the field of water.
During 2003-2004 I attended a course organized by the European Commission – Directorate General for Enlargement - T.A.I.E.X. in field of environment obtaining an environmental expert diploma. T.A.I.E.X. - TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND INFORMATION EXCHANGE is an instrument providing short-term assistance to countries acceding to the European Union in the form of support for the alignment of national laws, rules and procedures with the full body of EU legislation contained in the acquis and the subsequent application of the acquis).
Between 2005-2011 I attended the courses of the doctoral school within the Faculty of Hydrotechnics of the Technical University of Constructions Bucharest, in the field of „Water resources management in the Ialomita River Basin”.

Short Bio
Dr. Andranik Ghulijanyan is involved in forestry and environment sectors for over 35 years, conducting activities in forestry, environmental management sectors, as well as scientific research. He has been successfully participated in numerous national and international projects and is an author of 22 scientific papers and Doctor of biological sciences.
Dr. Ghulijanyan has been leading forest management planning activities for 15 Forest Enterprises of the Republic of Armenia. His input is considerable in the study of existing specially protected areas, the clarification and mapping of their boundaries (“Vordan Karmir” State Reserve), preparation of management plans (“Sevan” National Park, “Khosrov forest” state sanctuary), as well as in the development of proposals for the establishment of new specially protected areas (“Jermuk” National Park, “Vorotan” and “Kiranc” Natural Parks, “Arevik” State Sanctuary, “Khor Virap” State Reserve). He has leaded the activities of inventory and approval of the official list of Nature Monuments of the Republic of Armenia.
In 2003-2008 Mr. Ghulijanyan took part in the activities aimed at the regulation of legislative field of forestry and environment sectors of the Republic of Armenia in the framework of “Forest Institutional Support Project” within “Natural Resources Management and Poverty Reduction Project”.
Dr. Ghulijanyan has been leading the activities of the establishment of “Zikatar” forestry training center, as well as organization of a range of thematic trainings in the Center where he had successfully implemented organizational work, connected with forest and environmental sector problems (IUFRO).
Dr. Ghulijanyan is the National correspondent of “Forest Resources Assessment” in the framework of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations; he has prepared the FRA-2005 and FRA 2010 National Country Reports.

Short Bio
Ekaterina Kuharuk graduated from the State University in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, specializing in soil science - agrochemistry. She was hired as a soil scientist at the Institute of Pedology and Agrochemistry of N.Dimo. Since 1987, she studied at the postgraduate school at this institute, and after successful graduation, in 1991 she defended her thesis in Azerbaijan on the closed topic “Cartometric analysis of the soil cover of Moldova using large-scale maps” (Phd in Agricultural Sciences). In 1994 she received her second degree as Associated Professor. Since 1999, an environmental non-governmental organization - NGO “Ecostrategii” was founded in which she is the head. During this period, 12 international projects, 4 national projects were implemented, 7 brochures were published, numerous seminars were organized in Moldova and Ukraine.
Since 1996 she was invited to work on the topic "Radiological monitoring of soil cover" at the Institute of Ecology, at the same time she began to lecture at the State Agrarian University at the department "Land management". Special courses for students - "Landscape Geography", "Monitoring of land resources of Moldova", "Cartography", “Environmental protection” were developed. After publishing the monograph “Soils and processes of radioactive contamination of the environment” (Lambert Academic Publishing) in 2011, she was invited to work at the Institute of Soil Science, Agrochemistry and Soil Protection, N. Dimo, as a head of Erosion protection Department. She is the author and co-author of 320 scientific articles, 2 monographs, 7 brochures. She completed internships and received international expert certificates in the field of environmental protection in Austria, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Cyprus, and Sweden.

Dr. Mustafa Tufekcioglu is an assoc. prof. of Forestry in Artvin Coruh University, Artvin, Turkey. He holds master and doctoral degree from Iowa State University in Ames, IA, USA. His professional interest in research is watershed management with the expertise on soil and water conservation within the watershed management concept and scale including soil erosion in both upland and riparian ecosystem, stream hydrology and water pollution, stream ecology and restoration measures. Presently he is also studying the impacts of agricultural and residential area uses on stream water quality and stream litter pollution by examining the different pathways of pollutant transport such as surface runoff, streambank erosion and stream bed erosions.
